Release Date 6/6/2005
LOUISVILLE,
Ky. – The Site Analysis Working Group of the Louisville Arena
Task Force will hold its first meeting at 9 a.m. Tuesday, June 7,
in Room 101 at the Kentucky International Convention Center.
Chaired by UPS executive John Hindman, the group will discuss procedures
for determining which sites meet Task Force Chairman Steve Pence’s
definition of “viable.”
Once a potential site is submitted and determined to be viable,
it will be evaluated in terms of economic impact to the community,
accessibility, visibility, and other criteria that will be determined
by the Site Analysis Working Group.
Besides Chairman Hindman, members of the Site Analysis Working Group
are Metro Councilman Kelly Downard, Alice Houston, Eddy Roberts,
and Bill Samuels.
Under the leadership of Chairman Alice Houston, the Finance Working
Group held its first meeting on Monday, June 6, in the first-floor
conference room of the old City Hall.
Jerry Miller, executive director of finance for the Kentucky Commerce
Cabinet, told the group that a Request for Proposal (RFP) had been
issued on Thursday, June 2, to hire a professional arena consultant
to assist the Task Force.
The deadline for applications is 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 9. All
applications then will be reviewed and analyzed according to specific
criteria listed by Miller. The two finalists will be invited to
make a presentation at the full Task Force meeting on Monday, June
13.
After those presentations, the Task Force will vote to hire one
that will work with the Executive Committee and all Four Working
Groups.
State Representative Larry Clark, a member of the Finance Working
Group, suggested the group obtain information on what tax incentives
might be available in various geographic areas of the city. Mayor
Jerry Abramson said he would supply that information.
The full Task Force meeting on Monday, June 13, will begin at 9
a.m. in the Brown & Williamson Room at Papa John’s Cardinal
Stadium.
